NAME: Jade Harley
AGE: 16
CANON: Homestuck
CANON POINT: Act 7
CANON INFORMATION: Let me tell you about Homestuck
PERSONALITY: Jade is outwardly a very positive person: she's supportive of her friends, and is always ready to fire off encouraging words and cheerful emoticons in most social situations. She tries to see the best in bad situations, and generally maintains an optimistic outlook on life. She's nice; she's friendly. Almost anybody will tell you that.
This is not to say that Jade is a positive, happy girl across the board, however. She has very little tolerance for assholes, and if she perceives somebody as being rude, she has no problems being rude right back to them. Still, Jade is a forgiving gal - if somebody who was once rude at least makes an effort to make up for their former asshole-y ways, she will give them another shot. She tries to see the best in people as much as she can.
Unfortunately, Jade does not turn that forgiving nature to herself. Jade holds herself to incredibly high standards. She knows that she's a capable girl, and therefore, being anything less than capable is absolutely unacceptable. She doesn't allow herself to express negative emotions unless it's rightful anger. If she's frustrated, she'll feign a headache rather than admit it or ask for help. If she's upset, she'll hide it behind a nice emoticon and redirect the conversation. The contrast between how she treats herself and others is easily seen with her interactions with Jadesprite - the image of herself immobilized by weeping, too cowardly and selfish to step in and help her friends is practically Jade's worst nightmare. Rather than face her insecurity head-on, Jade lashes out instead.
Jade also prioritizes her friends above all else. She loves all of them deeply, and would likely do anything in order to make sure they were safe and happy. She places a lot of her self-worth based on how well she is able to help them - again, see her reaction to Jadesprite. She may not be as actively self-sacrificing as Dave or Rose are, but she's bound to a sense of duty. She wants to help them, and doesn't consider that doing so might put her into danger. All that matters is that she can help.
Sadly, as much as Jade loves her friends, she is also a very lonely person - the burden of being a powerful space player. She spent most of her life alone on an island, got to spend a few hours with her friends in person, and then abruptly two of them died while in her care and she spent a three year journey on a ship without any way to contact her closest friends while thinking she'd never see one of them again. Even when she was done with her lonely boat ride, she was immediately possessed, then put to sleep, and only had at best an hour or so to be with her friends before the end of the game. She said herself that she fell into a depression while on the ship for many years; while she will most certainly improve by being around people again, that kind of sadness doesn't vanish on its own.
Of course, Jade is really not all doom and gloom. The positive exterior she displays to her friends is perhaps forced sometimes, but it's not a front. She can be childish and light-hearted and enthusiastic about silly things, even if she sometimes needs a dead green alien to remind her to have fun.
Jade loves things like Squiddles, piling her bed with stuffed animals, and making dumb puns when they are unwanted. At the same time, she also handles guns and tinkers with nuclear physics. She's playful and goofy. She's also sharp and analytical. To Jade, there's no reason that these things can't co-exist, because she balances both perfectly. Both of these behaviors are a result of her time alone on the island. Because she was alone, she had to learn to fend for herself and be entirely self-sufficient. But because she was alone, there was nobody there to mock her for liking a show about cheerful cartoon squids. She needed to learn to take care of herself, but that doesn't mean she had to grow up. The lack of supervision means she could also cultivate whatever interests she wanted, and she focused on science. She may be able to tell you the half lives of various radioactive elements, but this girl wouldn't know literature if it smacked her across the face.
Finally, Jade has picked up some dog traits from merging with her dog, Bec. This means that she sometimes chases and barks at cats or that she can be easily swayed with dog treats. For the most part, Jade seems to be at peace with her new doggy self, especially since being a part-dog person had been a dream of hers for a while. (But she's not a furry, geeeez!) Still, that doesn't mean that the change was completely seamless: she used to be a vegetarian before merging with Bec, but that's now changed. She also misses Bec, who is no longer a separate entity she can pet and cuddle.
Still, even if her dog traits really do bother her, Jade will never tell. Her friends' problems are more important, after all.
ABILITIES: Jade has godly space powers in Homestuck proper which allows her to teleport herself and others, fly, levitate things, and change the size of any object she pleases. I'm going to limit them a little bit just so she isn't too OP - her teleportation power has a range (so she can teleport around the base, but not very far outside of it) and her growth powers are limited to things the size of a small house (so no more shrinking planets to the size of tennis balls). The powers will also have some physical exhaustion associated with them, so she won't be able to use them constantly.
Jade also has a very strong working knowledge of plants/gardening, mechanics, physics (especially nuclear physics), and firearms. She's also generally very survival-savvy from having basically raised herself, and comfortable swimming/being around the ocean since she grew up on an island.
INVENTORY: Just the clothes on her back, though they are very nice clothes - self-cleaning god tier pajamas. She also has her glasses, which are round and otherwise unremarkable.
MEMORY ALTERATION: Jade's just going to think this is the new universe made at the end of Sburb.
